Students describe Kindness Week, raise gift cards and log 32,751 acts districtwide

Lodi — Student leaders from Julian Morgan Elementary told the Lodi Unified board on Tuesday how Kindness Week activities combined local relief efforts and school spirit to engage students across the district.
Principal Jeff Pappas introduced fourth- and fifth-grade leadership students who described posters, morning rallies, spirit dress-up days and in-class activities designed to encourage and record acts of kindness. ‘‘We made posters and hung them around the school and spoke during morning rallies to our friends about being kind,’’ student Delilah Diaz said as she described the school’s campaign to gather gift cards for Southern California wildfire victims.
Sophia Martinez, another student presenter, said students wrote letters to families affected by wildfires and to Stockton’s police officers and firefighters. After the presentations, Pappas told the board the district raised more than $2,350 in gift cards and that students logged 32,751 individual acts of kindness on the district’s kindness tracker this year.
Board members thanked the students for their leadership and said they would spotlight the initiative in future board events.
The board’s recognition of student-led service projects underscores district efforts to link social-emotional learning with community engagement.
