Staff recommends Gate Construction as CMAR for Chalker Park at $246,025

Staff told the council that two qualification packages were received for a construction-manager-at-risk (CMAR) engagement for Chalker Park. The selection committee ranked Gate Construction and staff recommended approval of a resolution to authorize moving forward with that firm for preconstruction and construction services at a proposed fee of $246,025.
A representative from Patterson & Doer Engineers, Zach Buffington, explained the use of the AIA contract forms and said the documents had been edited for the project and reviewed by legal. "The AIA is just a standard contract document that's kind of used across all platforms, and you can edit it to fit the needs of each individual project and client," Buffington said.
Council members asked clarifying questions about contract edits and the selection process. Staff said the selection committee had reviewed and ranked the two proposals received on September 19 and recommended moving forward with the recommended firm. The work session discussion did not include a final signed contract; council was asked to consider the resolution.
Next steps are legal review and, if authorized, execution of the contract and commencement of preconstruction services.
