Uxbridge continues show-cause hearing after health inspections show progress at restaurant

The Select Board on May 27 reopened and then continued a show-cause public hearing examining compliance issues at Gina/Gia Ristorante, 785 Quaker Highway, after health staff said significant corrections have been made but some requirements remain outstanding.
"The last inspection was done on 05/13, and it was a much better inspection," Caitlin told the board, reporting that the store's primary problem — a leaking walk-in cooler — had been repaired and was no longer leaking. Board of Health Director Erin Hightower said she had also spoken with the owner, who reported the landlord completed the roof repairs and agreed to provide documentation confirming that work.
Board members debated whether to close the hearing. Some said most major issues were addressed; others urged caution because the hearing had already exceeded a 60-day continuance that began Feb. 27. The Board of Health and staff recommended continuing the hearing until the next meeting so the town could receive written proof that outstanding items had been completed.
The Select Board voted to continue the hearing, with the expectation that health staff will confirm receipt of documentation verifying roof repairs and any remaining landlord responsibilities before the board considers closing the matter.
