Planning board approves 374 Hazel Street battery plan, tables minor modification for 186 Providence Road

The Town of Uxbridge Planning Board approved the previously permitted 5-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) at 374 Hazel Street and discussed a separate minor modification for 186 Providence Road that the board tabled for additional review.
Tom Corbett, representing the owner/developer, said the 374 Hazel Street project was permitted previously (circa 2021) and that National Grid is now moving the portfolio forward. The board reviewed updated plans and moved to approve the 374 Hazel Street BESS as written; a roll-call vote recorded approval.
Corbett also described a proposed minor modification at 186 Providence Road: the developer is shifting to a newer PowerTitan 2 system that reduces the project footprint and is quieter than the earlier permitted equipment. The town’s noise consultant (Graves) asked for additional information and calculations; Corbett supplied materials and asked that Graves review them. Because the noise/technical material remains under review, the board chose to table the 186 Providence Road minor modification and revisit it at the Sept. 10 meeting so the consultant can finalize comments.
Board members noted technological change since the original 2021 permits and said that National Grid procurement timelines have driven equipment changes; staff will circulate the consultant’s review and the applicant will appear at the next meeting.
