Uxbridge continues show‑cause hearing for restaurant over unpermitted roof repairs, gives 30 days for compliance

The Uxbridge Select Board on June 23 continued a show‑cause license hearing for Diesel Inc., operating as Gene Gia Zinter (GEA's Ristorante) at 785 Quaker Highway, and set a 30‑day deadline for the business to secure corrective action or face license suspension or revocation.

Joe Fitzpatrick, Uxbridge building commissioner, told the board that roof repairs had been completed without a permit and that the contractor is based in Rhode Island and does not hold a Massachusetts license. Fitzpatrick recommended hiring an engineer to inspect the work and to submit an after‑the‑fact permit if the repairs meet local standards. "They can't pull a permit unless they're a CSL or an engineer," Fitzpatrick said, referring to licensing and permit rules.

Board members expressed concern about the matter's duration and urged prompt cooperation. One member said the issue had been on the docket for several months; the consensus motion was to continue the hearing for 30 days with explicit direction for the building commissioner to work directly with the owner and require an engineer's evaluation. The chair said the intent was not to put anyone out of business but to require minimum compliance standards so the establishment could continue to operate.

If the owner fails to present an acceptable engineer's report and the necessary permit by the next hearing, the board signaled it will consider license enforcement, including revocation. No final enforcement action was taken at the June 23 meeting; the matter remains open and will return to the board after the 30‑day period.
