Uxbridge historical commission registers no objection to demolition at 42 Henry Street

The Uxbridge Historical Commission voted at its meeting to record that it had no objection to a planned demolition at 42 Henry Street, a structure described in the meeting as identified by the state as a cultural resource.

David Piney of Lobesher Company briefed the commission on the developer’s plans for the property and described the proposed demolition. Commissioner Michael Petaski moved that the commission note it had no objection to the action; a fellow commissioner seconded the motion and the commission approved it unanimously. The commission agreed it would notify the Massachusetts Historic Commission once the action is completed.

The vote did not impose conditions on the demolition; minutes indicate the commission’s role in this instance was advisory and that notification to the state historic agency will follow the local approval process. The motion as recorded in the meeting materials was limited to a statement of no objection.

Commissioners also discussed documentation and research tied to the property. Members noted archival material and photographic resources useful to recording the site’s history before demolition. The commission accepted a task to compile or update its written mission and asked a member to prepare a narrative on the Wood Tavern’s historical significance to be used in outreach and records.

Next steps listed by commissioners include providing the Massachusetts Historic Commission with the town’s notification of the demolition and preserving or cataloging available historical images or descriptions before the structure is removed.
