Executive Director Rob said the pay action was intended to keep compensation competitive and retain specialized staff, noting the commission employs a range of specialists from decorative painters and conservators to master electricians and IT staff. "We want to make sure to retain our best people," Rob said during the meeting.
Commissioner Oberlin moved to apply the 3% COLA retroactive to Oct. 1, 2025, with a one-time 3% lump-sum grant; Commissioner Starks seconded the motion. The secretary conducted a roll-call vote: Chair Candler — yes; Vice Chair Bauer — yes; Commissioner Land — yes; Commissioner Oberlin — yes; Commissioner Star — yes. The chair announced the motion passed.
The commission did not discuss changes to benefit structures or provide a department-by-department pay table during the meeting. The motion records show the increase is specifically for Michigan State Capitol Commission staff and will be implemented per commission payroll procedures.
