Fallon County addresses golf-course chlorination, pipeline pigging and irrigation repairs

Fallon County public‑works and grounds staff updated commissioners on multiple golf‑course maintenance items: water chlorination tests, pump and valve operation, pipeline pigging, and turf restoration plans.
Staff said Rich performed a chlorine test before the valve opening and planned a second test after the pump ran. "Rich went out and took a chlorine test before we open the valve, and he'll take one after it's ran awhile," a staff member reported. The board kept gas chlorination at the current test level for the day and planned to adjust levels as lab results return.
Maintenance discussion moved to irrigation problems on greens. Staff described deep, localized soil pockets or "canyons" on holes 5 and 9 and proposed a pilot approach: import sod or fill pockets with the same sand used for topdressing greens, then monitor rooting in spring. "If the sod doesn't survive, we can plant grass and whatever, but we've got to get rid of the gaminess," a grounds supervisor said. Commissioners and staff agreed to test sodding on the worst two greens in spring (April) to gauge results and costs before larger repairs.
Separately, staff confirmed successful pipeline pigging (mechanical cleaning) and recommended adding pigging to the routine maintenance schedule, possibly annually or biannually depending on coliform test results. The county has an air compressor and equipment to perform pigging in‑house.
Next steps: run pump and collect follow-up chlorine samples; pilot sodding/fill on two greens in spring; formalize a pigging schedule tied to water‑quality test results.
