Pewaukee utility staff report passing CMAR grade, update progress on Gun Club lift station

City of Pewaukee utility staff reported to the Public Works Committee that the sewer utility received a passing CMAR evaluation and the report was approved by the common council and submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. "So we're all good, in the standings with the DNR," Speaker 5 said during the update.
The committee heard a construction update on the Gun Club lift station: interior work is nearing completion, electrical systems are being integrated and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) will be installed ahead of a wet test to verify pump and control-system operation. Speaker 5 said operator training will follow installation. "They're gonna do a wet test...it just proves the functionality of the PLCs, the pumps, and then, they'll do operator training post installation of all that work," Speaker 5 said.
Members discussed site impacts and public access. Water service across Watertown Road into the new building is complete, Speaker 5 said, and crews will tie into nearby force mains in the coming weeks, which will prolong the road closure. Speaker 7 described a required full-scale replacement of a deteriorated manhole located mid-driveway at the site and said the excavation and retention measures make this a significant and extended closure.
Committee members raised safety and operational questions about deep excavations. Speakers described some excavations reaching roughly 37 feet below ground surface; Speaker 5 said contractors will handle the deepest confined-space entries and the city prefers to limit staff entries unless necessary and when staff are confined-space trained.
The sewer items were presented for information; no formal action was requested on the CMAR report or the lift-station update during the meeting. Speaker 7 closed the water-supply agenda item by saying "there is no action to be taken on this one; it was just for your information." The Committee did not take additional votes related to construction scheduling at the meeting.
Next steps: contractors will complete PLC integration, perform wet testing, and conduct operator training; staff will continue leak detection and main repairs noted earlier in the meeting.
