The Coweta County Board of Commissioners spent the afternoon of July 22 working through a detailed, redlined draft of a proposed data‑center ordinance and the public comments the county received. After extended discussion, the board gave staff direction on several major points that will be incorporated into a revised draft and returned for public review before a continuation of the public hearing on August 19.
Zoning and entitlements: Staff asked whether data centers should be allowed by right in the Light Industrial (LM) district and therefore automatically permitted in M (Industrial). Several commissioners favored allowing data centers by right in LM (with LM minimums and conditions), noting that developers may still seek rezoning or other entitlements if required by the comprehensive plan. Staff said the ordinance will retain will‑serve requirements for electrical, water and sewer capacity.
