Commission approves nighttime route and conditions for Plant Yates oversized turbine/generator haul

Coweta County commissioners on July 15 approved staff's request to allow Edwards Moving and Rigging to use a county route for oversized and overweight hauling of turbines and generators to Plant Yates because a GDOT bridge on the preferred route is weight restricted.
Staff described the alternate route and the technical nature of the loads (multiple-axle trailers with approximately 15 axles distributing the weight; widths near 18 feet and heights near 20 feet were mentioned). Commissioners approved nighttime moves planned for July 20 and July 24 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) and asked that the company and Georgia Power coordinate law-enforcement traffic control, trimming of overhead limbs that could be struck, placement of electronic message boards to warn motorists, and inclusion of a sheriff's-office liaison when state troopers are used.
Jeff Butterworth, a Georgia Power representative, said the haul was critical path for three new generating units at Plant Yates and that the company would minimize disruption.
The board approved staff-recommended conditions and asked for advance notice before subsequent moves later in the year.
