Troup County approves posting for jail mental‑health liaison position to expand on‑site services

The board approved posting a new position to serve as a certified jail officer and mental‑behavioral health liaison in the county jail, a role staff said would provide on‑site counseling, coordinate aftercare and help reduce unnecessary incarceration.
A presenter described the role as functioning similarly to a social worker who would provide behavioral‑health support, assist with placement and coordinate aftercare. "This would be a position that would help with our mental behavioral mental health within the jail facility... would also help with aftercare and getting placement and possibly not incarcerating folks to begin with," the presenter said. The board voted to approve posting the position once the job description and salary are finalized.
The position will be posted pending final job description and compensation decisions and will follow standard hiring and budget procedures.
