Troup County commissioners voted Aug. 19 to approve a resolution requesting the county elections board issue the call to place a "brunch bill" on the November ballot, shifting on‑premises alcoholic beverage sales start time from 12:30 p.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Mister Harper, who presented the resolution, told the board the timeline to add the question for the general election was tight and that if the 90‑day window is missed the county would face a special election scenario with a 45‑day window and all precincts open for a single‑item ballot. "The only difference here is changing the time from 12:30... to 11AM to be able to sell alcoholic beverage on premises at 11AM instead of waiting till 12:30," Harper said. He said the board of elections would issue the call when it meets this week.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the resolution to issue the call; the motion carried by voice vote. The county clerk and elections staff will coordinate scheduling and next steps to ensure required notices and timelines are met.
