Commission approves Odyssey Charter School rezoning for campus expansion in Newnan

The Coweta County Board of Commissioners voted July 15 to approve rezoning petition REZ25-03, filed by Odyssey Charter School, to reclassify 7 Solar Circle in Newnan from M-Industrial to OI Office Institutional to allow the school to expand into an existing nearby building.
Miss Blackwell, the county zoning associate, told the board the 5.76-acre site lies within Shenandoah Industrial Park and is currently developed with an existing building the applicant intends to use for expansion. Staff recommended approval with three conditions addressing circulation and queuing: use of an additional existing driveway for drop-off/pick-up, a prohibition on vehicle queuing that blocks St. John Circle or Amalchak Boulevard, and a requirement that the applicant monitor on-site vehicle storage and implement remedies (such as staggered start times or on-site lane construction) if queuing spills onto county roadways.
Scott Hooper, Odyssey's superintendent, said the building has a “long and rich history of educational operations” and that the conditions listed by staff "have in fact already been met," asking the board for support.
Following a motion and second, the board approved REZ25-03 with the three staff conditions by voice vote.
The approval allows Odyssey to integrate the existing building with its adjacent campus, subject to the conditions intended to manage traffic and ensure compliance with county ordinances.
