Robert Hernandez, chair of Paducah’s Human Rights Commission, and Commissioner Gurley presented the commission’s recent work and introduced a new educational video created with Guerrilla Marketing to broaden outreach.
Hernandez said the commission has focused on two primary tenets—education and visibility—and has increased community participation and event programming over the past three years. Commissioner Gurley said the video will be posted to the city website and distributed via local partners; Hernandez added the commission has already shared the video with Kelly Chanel, CEO of the United Way, to extend distribution to area nonprofits and plans placements in community venues such as Cinemark and Maiden Alley.
The commission said the video is intended to expand the commission’s footprint beyond what a small volunteer group can do through events alone and to educate residents about the commission’s role and complaint resources.
Commissioners thanked the Human Rights Commission for the work and the video. The commission said a full report and planned strategic activities for the coming fiscal year would be provided to the board.
