Barren County authorizes online surplus-equipment auction, approves routine claims and transfers

The court approved minutes from Sept. 16, 2025 (motion by Marty Kinslow, second by Tim Coomer), voted to pay claims (motion by Tim Durham, second by Brad Gross), and approved an internal transfer of funds (motion by Marty Kinslow, second by Derek Pedigo). Each motion carried by voice vote.
The court also authorized sale of surplus county equipment via an online auction. The presiding judge asked magistrates to help publicize the sale and described the inventory as including many items "just from [the] road department, sheriff's" offices. He told the court: "Bidding begins on October 20 and ends October 30 at 5PM Central Standard Time." Officials said flyers are available at the county office and encouraged wide public notice.
Officials discussed the tax and exemption implications of registering special-purpose vehicles in relation to the auction topic, noting that once registered with special-purpose tags those vehicles would be entered into property tax rolls. One speaker said the county has seen only a small number of such vehicles so far.
Next steps: staff will publish auction materials, process approved claims and complete the approved fund transfer. The court adjourned after a brief set of community announcements.
