Board approves August bills and a personnel policy; agrees to move into closed session

Policy 4003 (employee salary schedule): The second reading of policy 4003 (an addition to personnel policies establishing process for creating and approving employee salary schedules) was presented with the italicized language the board had previously discussed. Counsel indicated the language matched prior agreement. Trustee Annas moved and Trustee Gupta supported; the policy was adopted on a 7-0 vote.
Closed session: The board moved to closed session under the Freedom of Information Act exemption (section 13(1)(g)) to consider a written legal opinion. Trustee Lacui said she had not received a written legal opinion and expressed concern about taking the matter into closed session without seeing the letter; she said she would abstain from the closed-session vote. The motion to move to closed session passed 6 yes, 0 no, 1 abstain. The meeting recording was stopped prior to the closed session.
