Conyers swears in Sherry Washington and honors 18 Conyers University graduates

Council member Sherry Washington was formally sworn in at the start of the Conyers City Council meeting. A judge administered the oath, after which Washington thanked voters, her church and campaign supporters and pledged to work for the community. "We will do great things in the community, and I promise you the best is yet to come," Washington said in brief remarks following the ceremony.
The council also recognized 18 graduates of this year’s Conyers University class. A city representative described the program as the third year of the class run in partnership with Leadership Rockdale and called each graduate forward to receive certificates and a ‘swag bag.’ Staff said the program emphasized civic engagement and community questions during its sessions.
The mayor and fellow council members offered congratulations and noted plans for photographs and a reception after the meeting. The meeting then moved on to the regular agenda.
