Albany utility staff preview policy work, note retirements and set December meeting for Dec. 15

The board received information Nov. 20 that staff is finalizing a utility policy document expected in December, and members were briefed on personnel changes and outreach programs.
General Manager Dan told the board staff aims to have the utility policy completed by December and said they are documenting institutional knowledge ahead of retirements. Dan noted that Ms. Petty will retire early next year and the utility is assembling knowledge from tenured employees to ease transitions. Board members also mentioned retirements in Public Works, including Julia Watson and Clay Miller, and discussed succession planning.
Staff described an organizational-development effort intended to support succession planning and to prepare internal candidates for advancement so that promotable employees have the skills required for new roles. The utility also plans continued outreach for a senior citizen assistance program to help qualified seniors access available services.
Board members discussed whether to change the December meeting date; after discussion a motion to reschedule was made and approved by roll call, moving the board’s December meeting to Monday, Dec. 15 at 08:30. Staff agreed to verify whether board attendance or excused-absence policy must follow City Commission rules and return with clarification.
