"USDA is now taking over for the Department of Education," one member said while reviewing the document. Members discussed whether the proposed policy duplicates civil-rights language that is currently spread across other district policies and agreed staff should map existing policy references before or at the full-committee review.
Committee members suggested that, practically, many complaints still would be handled in-house first and elevated to state or federal levels only when necessary. The subcommittee motioned, seconded and approved sending the food-and-nutrition civil-rights policy and procedures to the full committee for review.
