Coweta commissioners approve contracts, grants and community requests including $635,840 DOT grant work and holiday distribution space

The Coweta County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of contract amendments, grant-funded work and community requests during its regular meeting.
Public works staff said the county received a Georgia Department of Transportation grant for $635,840 to fund safety improvements such as striping, signage and guardrail. Because the grant requires a 30% local match and bids came in lower than expected, staff recommended adding additional roads to the existing TRP Construction Group striping contract to meet the match requirement. The only contract cost increase identified in the record was for traffic control, which rose from $10,000 to $12,500 (a $2,500 increase). The board approved the supplemental amendment.
The board also approved execution of an amendment to the contract for indigent defense services with the Superior Court Public Defender’s Office. Staff said the board previously approved an appropriation of $773,305.40; the FY26 budget included an additional $226,000 and staff recommended a contract amendment of $169,500 to align the contract with the state fiscal year effective Oct. 1. The motion to execute the amendment passed.
Commissioners approved an amendment to the license and services agreement with Tyler Technologies that establishes acceptable use and cybersecurity obligations for the vendor’s computer-aided dispatch, records management and jail systems. Staff said there was no additional cost.
The board accepted a deed of open-space restriction and an easement for Daybreak Condominiums Phase 1B submitted by DRB Group Georgia LLC; the record lists the open-space acreage as "approximately 01/1969 acres" and shows posted landscape bonds of $34,466 and $14,280. The board approved a quitclaim deed transferring an open-space parcel to the Bantry Park Homeowners Association and voted to temporarily close Ridley Road to replace a cross drain pipe.
Commissioners approved surplusing a rescue boat previously used by 'Caliatta County Fire Rescue' (name as stated in the meeting record) and combined and approved two bid awards to enforce county ordinances about overgrown vegetation and trash at two properties in Districts 3 and 4.
Finally the board approved letting Bridging the Gap use the Tommy Brown multipurpose building on Temple Avenue from Dec. 13 through Dec. 22 for its annual "Christmas in Coweta" distribution. Jennifer Hooper, coordinator, and Jamar Joiner, executive director, said the program helped 911 families and provided gifts to 2,285 children last year; staff recommended allowing the group to use the facility at no cost and the board approved the request.
Several other routine items — including approval of minutes, confirmation of a parade assistance request for the town of Turin and execution of a juvenile-court services agreement with Evidence Based Associates — were approved by voice vote earlier in the meeting. A request to seek transit funding to the Atlanta Transit Link Authority for fiscal year 2027 was approved; the submitted record does not specify the amount.
The commission adjourned after completing the agenda.
