County applies for $2.5 million GOSP grant to expand Omega Heritage Trail, pledges local match if awarded

Macon‑Bibb commissioners voted unanimously on Oct. 21 to authorize an application for $2.5 million from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program (GOSP) for expansion of the Omega Heritage Trail and the development of a Conservation Park. The motion also authorizes appropriation of up to $625,000 in local funds from the county’s supplies fund as the local match should the grant be awarded.
The item was sponsored by Commissioner Jobe Hewitt and Mayor Pro Tem Clark and carried on a unanimous voice vote with no public opposition raised during the meeting. The chair asked for any questions; none were offered before the motion passed and the item was included on the consent agenda.
The county described the local match source as 2018 supplies funds (agenda language), and the county will proceed with application steps and accept awarded funds if the grant is successful.
