County to fund outreach to people experiencing homelessness with $75,000 contract

Macon‑Bibb commissioners on Oct. 21 approved a resolution to authorize the mayor to enter a professional services agreement with Root Analytics LLC for $75,000 to provide outreach services to people experiencing homelessness. The chair said the contract will fill a funding gap left when a prior United Way grant expired and will cover services through March 2026.
The chair explained the outreach team will work ahead of encampment removals, visit encampments with information about available treatment and shelter options, and coordinate with the sheriff’s office, the district attorney and public defender’s office. The chair said the program will include roughly three full‑ and part‑time staff and will work with local partners to connect people to services, including referrals to behavioral health providers and re‑entry programs.
Commissioner Bryant asked how individuals will be selected for assistance and whether outreach workers will meet people at jail release; the chair said staff will be identified through court or corrections referrals in some instances and will also conduct street outreach and pre‑encampment engagement. The motion to authorize the contract was seconded and carried by voice vote; the item was sent to the consent agenda.
