Portage City Council voted Sept. 23 to adopt a resolution to sell the city-owned property at 9246 Portage Industrial Drive to the county for $600,000, to be placed on file for 28 days with final action set for Oct. 21, 2025.
Councilmember Urban raised concerns about guaranteeing ongoing storage the city expected to receive as part of the transaction and asked for language to protect the city in the event the county later disposes of the storage. City staff and county representatives worked the language; staff said the added provision requires the county to make the city whole if the storage becomes unavailable within the agreed period, addressing Urban’s concern.
Urban moved to adopt the resolution, which passed on a roll-call vote with all council members voting yes. The resolution places the required paperwork on file for 28 days before final action, with the sale subject to the terms of the real estate purchase agreement presented on the dais.
