Parks staff said the project began with community input in late 2022 and design and engineering are complete; the city has construction funding in its FY25 budget and expects to advertise bids immediately. Staff estimated the funded amount at approximately $990,000 and forecast 12–18 months from contract award to project completion.
Council members asked about demand, potential multi‑use options such as basketball goals, reservation systems and whether the active local tennis community would relocate programs from Henderson. Parks staff said the bid package will not include additional line striping for other sports but the department expects to add basketball goals after construction if community need and usage data justify it; the lighting will be remotely controlled so lights cannot remain on after a preset curfew.
The council encouraged staff to gather usage data and consider a reservation pilot for peak periods, but no formal change to the bid package was requested before release. Staff said they will return with bid results for council review and contract award recommendations.
