Coweta board approves environmental covenant limiting groundwater use at county property in Newnan

Coweta County staff presented an environmental covenant associated with county-owned property at 50 Selt Road in Newnan and recommended the board approve its execution with Magna Seeding and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). Staff said groundwater contamination from nearby properties extends onto county property and that testing has demonstrated impacts to neighboring wells. The covenant would limit use of the county’s groundwater for drinking purposes on the affected parcel. The county attorney reviewed the document and found it in order. The board approved execution of the covenant by voice vote.

Staff said the covenant is part of a broader remediation and monitoring process and that the EPD and other parties will be signatories to the agreement. The county will continue to monitor groundwater and comply with covenant restrictions.
