Lincoln Trail District Health Department reports rising clinic and inspection numbers for Meade County

BRANDENBURG — Sarah Jo Best, public health director for Lincoln Trail District Health Department, presented the district’s FY2025 report and highlighted county‑specific figures during the fiscal court meeting.
Best said Meade County clinic visits increased from about 1,600 in FY2024 to 2,088 in FY2025. Environmental inspections rose from 1,076 to 1,268. The department’s home visitation program — which serves prenatal families and children up to 90 days old — reported enrollment of about 450. WIC enrollment also grew and the department recently added fluoride varnish for WIC children to help prevent dental caries.
Best noted staffing increases in environmental services (two full‑time environmentalists and a supervising position) and the launch of an adult‑vaccine program last September available regardless of income or insurance status. She also described an on‑base WIC clinic at Fort Knox serving military families and expanded STI testing and treatment capacity.
The health department reported community outreach activities including partnerships with local schools, the library, senior center, and faith organizations, plus off‑site vaccine clinics and an app for public alerts. Best encouraged residents to use the department’s website and social channels to request services, file complaints or apply for site‑soil evaluations.
What’s next: the department will continue outreach to churches and community partners for vaccination clinics, maintain environmental inspection coverage, and pursue certification as a ‘recovery‑ready community’ to coordinate addiction‑recovery resources.
