Judge Executive Owen J. McNeil opened the Mason County Fiscal Court meeting Oct. 14 and read a proclamation declaring October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month for the county.
"Therefore, I, Owen J. McNeil, Judge Executive of Mason County, Kentucky hereby declare October to be 2025 to be domestic violence awareness month," McNeil read as he presented the proclamation and invited ION Center staff forward for a photograph.
Veil McElfresh and other ION Center representatives described the center’s services for survivors and thanked county officials for local support and access to community spaces for meetings. McElfresh said the ION Center serves anyone who has experienced domestic or family violence and expressed gratitude for welcome from residents and businesses.
The court paused the regular agenda for the proclamation and a brief photo opportunity. No formal vote was required for the ceremonial proclamation; McNeil and commissioners acknowledged the ION Center’s role and encouraged continued community support.
