Police and public-safety staff described the Cybertruck as a purpose-built vehicle with payload capacity, charging capability and ballistic protection suitable for specific tactical deployments. "There's ballistic protection on the Cybertruck...we jumped on that opportunity," the police representative said in explaining why the department preferred the vehicle. Staff emphasized charging capacity, storage and payload as operational justifications and said the purchase would cost the city nothing beyond grant administration.
Council members questioned whether other makes could deliver comparable capabilities and raised concerns about local repair and servicing. Citizen Rich Pratt told the council the nearest dealer was in Ann Arbor or Southfield and noted the vehicle may require flatbed transport for service. Pratt said, "...the closest dealer is Ann Arbor or Southfield, and it requires a flatbed to transport. You cannot tow it." The chief and staff reiterated they believed the unique capabilities justified selecting the Cybertruck under the grant.
The council recorded a roll-call vote: Missus Brandana voted No; Miss Rose Yes; Miss Winton Yes; Mr. Johnson Yes; Miss Daniels Yes; Mr. Geiss No. The motion passed 4–2. The council and staff noted they will manage logistics for maintenance and will report back on operational deployment.
