Uxbridge votes to join Central Massachusetts Regional Stormwater Coalition at $4,000 per year

The Uxbridge Select Board voted April 28 to participate in a multi-town Central Massachusetts Regional Stormwater Coalition covering FY2026–FY2030. The coalition, which includes 32 communities with Shrewsbury acting as host, coordinates permitting, public-notice materials and regional consultant work related to evolving EPA-driven stormwater permits.
Paul (committee representative) explained that the regional approach spreads consultant costs across many towns, provides pooled resources for advertising and public-notice requirements and allows participating towns to coordinate responses to new permit requirements. He said the cost to Uxbridge is $4,000 per year and that communities can opt out if they later determine participation is not providing value.
Board members asked that the contract be updated where it references older terminology ("selectmen") to use the town’s current nomenclature ("Select Board"). With that change, the Select Board voted to approve the intermunicipal agreement and authorized staff to finalize signatures.
The Select Board noted the agreement reduces duplicated effort and allows Uxbridge to access a pool of shared resources when new stormwater permit rules are issued.
