Select Board closes Gia’s show-cause hearing, appoints traffic constables and adopts multiple roadway takings

At its August meeting the Select Board closed a show-cause hearing for Gia’s restaurant after the town manager reported required permits, taxes and an engineer’s affidavit were submitted; the board also unanimously appointed three traffic constables and approved orders of taking and an easement related to Elm Street and Campanelli Drive.
The Select Board of the Town of Uxbridge on August 11 closed a show-cause hearing for Gia’s Ristorante Italiano after town staff said outstanding permits and taxes had been resolved and an engineer certified recent roof work.
Town Manager Steve Settee told the board that permits had been applied for, taxes paid and an engineer had provided documentation on the roof. "The roof is fine," he said, and recommended the board close the hearing. Select Board Member Plaskow moved to close the public hearing; the motion was seconded by Member Bill McMillan and carried unanimously.
The board also approved several procedural land-use votes. Town counsel explained the order of taking required to record Elm Street as a public way; the board voted to adopt the order and authorize recording with the registry of deeds. Counsel said the order formalizes the town’s rights once the layout and town-meeting acceptance steps are complete.
Separately the board adopted an order of taking for Campanelli Drive and approved an easement and maintenance agreement for a privately owned sewer force main that crosses the proposed public way. Eric Barth of KP Law explained that the owner will retain maintenance responsibility for the private force main but will grant the town an easement allowing emergency access; the agreement also requires the town to give reasonable notice before non-emergency entry.
Public safety items included the appointment of three traffic constables. Police Chief Montmeni presented three vetted nominees and said the department’s construction-detail demand averages eight to ten details a day, placing strain on a 23-officer department. The board approved the appointment of David Valani, Craig Stanley and Matthew Gilmore to serve as traffic constables.
On procedural business the board approved the 08/11/2025 meeting minutes (one abstention recorded) and adjourned. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 8, 2025.
