Commission previews documentary premiere, holiday tree plan and tour activity at the Capitol

Executive Director Rob Blackshaw told commissioners the Rotunda documentary (covering the battle-flag conservation work and the Rotunda Restoration Project) will premiere Saturday, December 6 with two showings; staffers including Matt Van Acker produced the film and commissioners were invited to attend.
"This is going to be held on Saturday, December 6, and we're gonna have 2 showings that day," Blackshaw said, and added the film will be opened to the public more broadly after the initial events.
Blackshaw also announced the state's 2025 Christmas tree selection: "It's a 68 foot spruce from Sault Ste. Marie." He said the crew plans to harvest the tree on October 30 and transport it to the Capitol the weekend of November 1, with the tree-lighting ceremony scheduled for November 21.
On public access, Blackshaw reported that recent Saturday tours hosted about 100 visitors and filled every tour slot; he recommended keeping one Saturday-a-month tours in place until demand warrants expansion.
These event dates and logistics will be posted to public channels and staff will coordinate volunteer and city support for installation and lighting.
