An unidentified member moved the amendment, which the chair said was intended to address concerns raised by the Department of Environmental Quality and to allow additional House amendments if the bill reaches the other chamber. After brief discussion, the committee called the question on the amendment and recorded an initial voice vote; the roll-call tally on the amended bill later showed nine members voting yes and one voting no. The chair announced the motion carried and declared Senate Bill 532 passed in committee.
Senator Pope said he was voting against the bill, describing his position as a "soft no" during earlier remarks, noting concerns raised by his community. Committee members did not enter further debate after the roll call. The committee moved on to scheduled House bill hearings.
