Maplewood swears in two council members and honors local volunteers and donors

The Maplewood City Council began its Jan. 13 meeting with oaths of office for newly sworn or re‑elected council members Rebecca Cave and Nikki Villavicencio. City Clerk Sinthe administered the oaths and attendees were invited to take photos following the ceremony.
During recognition items, Chief Bearden presented a resolution thanking Calvary Church for a targeted effort to purchase Target gift cards and partner with Maplewood Public Safety to distribute them to residents in need; the transcript records the phrase '$66.50 dollar Target gift cards' in describing the church’s contribution. The council adopted the resolution by voice vote.
Chief Bearden also introduced a separate resolution accepting a $3,000 donation from Schmelz Countryside Volkswagen; staff said the amount will be split $1,500 each between police and fire for employee wellness and recognition.
