Board approves prefabricated yard‑waste shed funded by sticker sales

The City of La Crosse Board of Public Works on an undisclosed date voted unanimously to approve the purchase of a prefabricated shed for the municipal yard‑waste site, to be paid from the yard‑waste sticker sales account.

Director Gallagher told the board the sticker program "has been going very well," and that the account has "something in excess of 50,000" accumulated this year to fund the purchase. Gallagher said staff recommends not selecting the lowest bid because "the low quote did not include all the options that were specked" when soliciting quotes and might use lower‑quality materials that shorten the shed’s lifespan.

Council members asked what special features the higher bids included; Gallagher said he did not have specifics on hand and would ask the utilities coordinator (Nick/Smeby) to return with details on construction materials and any security or lockable storage elements. Director Terry confirmed two existing sheds on site could be removed using internal city resources, and that removal would not require additional funding.

A motion to approve the purchase was made by Director Trey and seconded by Council President Dickinson; the board voted and the motion passed unanimously. The purchase will be funded entirely from the yard‑waste sticker sales account, per staff.

The Board did not name the selected vendor at the meeting and requested staff provide exact bid details and specifications in a future report.
