Board pulls 3 Oaks Pond grading/park proposal, asks staff to prioritize stormwater projects

"We wanted to repurpose that location for community area, more likely to be a park," the project presenter said, describing Lanier Engineering's design and noting the item would be one of the first stormwater capital projects.
Commissioners raised concerns about using stormwater funds for recreational amenities while longstanding drainage problems at Valencia and South Madison remain unaddressed. One commissioner said using stormwater funds for recreation would create poor optics, and another requested a comprehensive update on the queue of stormwater projects before approving the conversion. Staff agreed to pull the item and return with a prioritized list of planned projects and available funding.
The board did not vote to approve the project; instead, staff will provide a monthly update on capital stormwater projects and bring the pond proposal back once commissioners have had the requested prioritization and funding breakdown.
Members asked staff to confirm that the proposed modifications would not recreate drainage problems and to include engineering cost and funding source details when the item returns.
