Public commenters urge board to finish yard-security work and ask DA for help on police-related complaint

Later, Stephanie Hoopman of Patapsin Township thanked the board for the response to a recent escape attempt but urged the board to finalize spending approval for yard upgrades previously approved earlier in the year. She said the larger security upgrades included non-climbable fencing and covers over yard areas and argued that delaying final cost approval leaves incarcerated people, corrections officers and the community at risk. "Kicking the can down the road... is placing people at risk," she said. Hoopman asked the board to give final approval so the work can be installed and implemented.
The board acknowledged those comments and staff offered to follow up with Mr. Martin; no formal board action on the yard upgrades was recorded during the meeting.
