Helena — Legislative Fiscal Division analyst Joe Bonn demonstrated an online "oil and gas library" and related interactive fiscal tools to the House Energy, Technology, and Federal Relations Committee, showing how the state tracks and projects oil-and-gas collections by fund and by county.
Bonn walked members through dashboards that show revenue collections through time, school-district and county distributions and the inputs used in the legislature's HJ2 revenue forecast. "As of our last available data, there was 1 rig operating in October, and we are producing about 81,000 barrels a day," Bonn told the committee.
He also demonstrated a long-range projection that uses S&P price estimates to model state collections out multiple years and noted users can adjust those price assumptions. Bonn said trainings and a short explanatory video are available on the LFD website and that the division has brochures and an energy library with additional materials.
The demonstration was offered as background and information; committee members asked no substantive policy questions during the presentation. The session moved on to legislative business after the LFD presentation.
