Representatives for the Sheboygan County Airport told the House Appropriations subcommittee that a $184,000 state appropriation would fund reconstruction of the airport access drive, hangar access and terminal parking.
Chris Bauer (Northern Lakes Economic Alliance) said the surface is approximately 30 years old, built on crushed stone and asphalt that is now rutted and prone to flooding; he said the parking area used by Bois Blanc (Bob Lo) Island residents floods and the drive is effectively a one-lane route. Bauer described the airport as an economic lifeline for island residents, life-flight operations and local industry.
Committee members asked whether the estimate covers all work and whether other funding sources were pursued. Presenters said the figure represents construction work (pulverize, regrade, repave, ditching) based on a local contractor’s estimate and that federal terminal- improvement funding had been explored but was not available for this scope.
No committee vote was recorded on the request during the hearing.
