Gulfport council authorizes city attorneys to accept opioid litigation settlements

On a voice vote, the council moved to authorize the attorneys representing the city to accept proposed settlements with Purdue and certain affiliates and members of the Sackler family as discussed privately with the city attorneys. The council also authorized acceptance of proposed settlements with a list of secondary manufacturers recited by the attorneys (including Alvogen, Apotex, Hikma, Invidior, Milan, Sun and Zydus/Zytas as named in the session). No further settlement terms were disclosed in open session.
The council additionally authorized the city attorney's office to accept $104.77 from GEICO as a full and final payment related to a vehicle-caused damage claim. The mayor and council confirmed these authorizations by voice vote after returning from executive session; city officials recorded no other official action from the closed session.
