Tunica County board approves inventory purge and a lieutenant appointment for sheriff’s office

The Tunica County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 2 approved a sheriff’s office request to remove specified items from the office inventory and acknowledged a personnel appointment.
A sheriff’s office representative asked the board to approve deletion of listed items from the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office inventory records; the list included serial numbers and photographs, and the board voted to carry the motion. Board members asked about disposal of stun guns and older weapons; the sheriff’s representative said items identified for purge would be destroyed rather than resold, and noted prior practice had included advertising and sale of older items.
Sheriff HAMP announced the appointment of James Payne Jr. to lieutenant of investigations at an hourly rate of $32.39 effective Sept. 2. The presenter said the salary will be funded by transferring $67,371.20 from existing budget lines (no new funds requested) and that budget line transfers will be made as described in the board materials.
The board also received routine reports from the sheriff’s office including upcoming travel to grant-implementation and career-fair events, one employee separation effective Aug. 18, and reimbursements and grant receipts totaling the amounts reported in the sheriff’s summary.
