Hancock County agrees to request legislative abeyance for tourism bureau

The Board approved a request from the Hancock County Tourism Development Bureau to ask the state legislature to place the county tourism bureau in abeyance while regional tourism entities take on functions; the board voted 5–0 to support the recommendation.
Bill Cotter, joined by vice president David Hilbert and treasurer Cammy Cornfoot, told the board that the Hancock County Tourism Development Bureau voted Aug. 19 to cease operations and recommended the county request the legislature place the bureau in abeyance.
"The bureau on August 19 passed a resolution to cease doing operations at the September this year," Cotter said, and asked the county to keep the organizational structure in place so appointments could be reinstated if needed. He said the regional tourism entity is already performing many functions and that some bureau activities will be handed off to other agencies.
The board moved, seconded and approved the request to ask the state legislature to place the bureau in abeyance (vote recorded 5–0).
