Claiborne County board approves payroll, hires several road workers, authorizes equipment bids and green-energy assessment; grader purchase tabled

The Claiborne County Board of Supervisors approved routine financial items and several personnel actions and authorized next steps on county projects at its Sept. 15 meeting.
The board approved the claims docket and August 2025 payroll and approved hiring requests from the road department: Marissa Williams as dump-truck driver at $14 per hour (pending background and tests), Kelsey Dodson Jr. as tractor driver, and Demond Bell as tractor operator/mechanic at $15 per hour. The board also approved a $1-per-hour increase for those hires after a 90-day probationary period. Chancery Clerk Gloria Dodson secured board approval for a $42,425 reimbursement to the Clayman County School District, a $237.35 payment to Constable Raffy L. Neal and appointment and salary funding for a court-administration position at $45,000 per year (effective Oct. 1, 2025).
The road department asked the board to accept sealed bids for five surplus items (detailed asset and serial numbers were provided in the record) and the board authorized a two-week sealed-bid process. The meeting considered a proposed purchase of a roller/roller grader from Puckett Machinery; transcript figures for price and applied rents were unclear and board members asked for budget-source clarification, so the board tabled the purchase pending follow-up.
