Pueblo County reports six-figure courthouse repair estimates, online project dashboard for Medal Of Honor Boulevard

County Manager Bena Genacio updated the Pueblo County Board of County Commissioners on Sept. 25 about recovery work following recent courthouse flooding and on county project tracking.
Genacio said multiple restoration contractors have assessed flood damage and that initial repair estimates are "very high, six figures." She said staff will obtain more competitive estimates and additional air-quality testing is under way; the county will process contractor estimates and insurance claims through the county attorney’s office. Genacio confirmed the courthouse insurance deductible is $1,500 and said staff will determine how much repair work the county’s policy will cover.
Genacio also said county staff are finalizing the annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR) and are racing to meet a Sept. 30 deadline to deliver internal documents to the external auditing firm. She warned that, in her 20 years, an audit has always produced findings and that the county expects to identify items requiring policy updates or documentation improvements once the audit is complete.
On capital projects, Genacio unveiled a new public dashboard for the Medal Of Honor Boulevard project on the county website under Capital Projects. The dashboard shows project overview, timeline checkpoints, photos and a budget summary; Genacio said the project remains on schedule and on budget as staff monitor the timeline with the hope of opening the roadway in November.
Next steps: staff will continue air-quality testing, obtain additional repair estimates and report back to the board on insurance coverage and audit findings once the ACFR is completed.
