Oak Creek-Franklin board approves special-education aides, elementary science indicators and names the new pool

At the Sept. 22 meeting the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District board approved several agenda items by voice vote, including new support staffing, elementary science indicators and a facility name.

Meredith Whitman moved to create one 6-hour special-education aide position, three 5.5-hour special-education aide positions and one 1.5-hour supervisory aide; Alan Kaiser seconded the motion and the board approved it by voice vote. The motion was presented as a response to student needs identified after schools opened.

The board next approved the recommended elementary science report-card indicators after a motion to adopt the recommendations; a second was recorded and the motion passed by voice vote.

For the naming of the new aquatic facility, a motion (recorded in the transcript as made by "Niggly") proposed the name Oak Creek Aquatic Center; Meredith Whitman seconded. A board member noted a committee of citizens recommended the name and the board approved the motion by voice vote.

Board members recorded no roll-call vote totals in the public transcript; motions were confirmed passed by the chair’s announcement. The board also approved its meeting and operating norms, with discussion about adding a timeline (72 hours/3 business days) for initial responses by a designated officer.

Administrators said the pool will be integrated into Oak Creek Recreation programming and that community use of district spaces has been increasing.

Next procedural steps: staffing changes will be implemented through personnel processes and the approved indicators will be applied in upcoming reporting cycles.
