Board recognizes student theater winners and large PTO donation; plans outreach for annual meeting

The Greendale School District board opened the meeting with commendations for high-school theater students who earned Jerry Awards presented by the Overture Center for the Arts. Administrators named several student performers and thanked the cast, crew and artistic team.
Administrators also announced recent community donations: a $1,000 Eagle Scout donation from Cole Nelson for benches and soccer-field reseeding, a $400 anonymous donation to the Greendale Senior Social Club, a $54,655 Canterbury PTO donation toward a kindergarten-side playground and smaller donations to the reading-buddies program from Beth Sorber and Clark and Carol Richards. Administration said the PTO donation may be recognized at the district's annual meeting.
On the annual meeting (Sept. 15) agenda, administrators listed actions including authorizing board-member salaries, adopting tax-levy recommendations and authorizing payment of board travel expenses; the board discussed outreach ideas (engaging PTOs and the citizen finance committee) and suggested incentives and friendly school competitions to increase community turnout.
Next steps: administration will follow up with PTOs and the ad team to promote the annual meeting and bring commendations and recognition items forward at the September meeting.
