Greendale board reviews 2025'026 scorecard with 10% proficiency target and virtual charter pilot

Administrators walked the Greendale School District board through the recommended 2025'026 district scorecard aligned to the district's strategic plan, outlining six priorities administrators said will guide goals, measurement and short-cycle feedback for the coming year.
For academic performance, administration recommended increasing the percentage of students achieving proficiency in ELA and math by 10% across grade spans, "until we get to 80," an administrator said, adding that short-cycle, standards-aligned assessments and biweekly teacher-team meetings will monitor progress and prompt targeted interventions.
On career readiness, administrators described plans to expand student access to community partners in five career pathways and to pilot AI curricular materials at the middle school. A technology team including the director of technology will attend conferences and support teacher implementation, administration said.
The scorecard also includes priorities to streamline family communications with a district app, onboard and train new mental-health staff (two school psychologists, two social workers and a counselor) to ensure consistent response, and a staffing goal aimed at reducing unplanned absences by 10% (administrators reported more than 2,000 unplanned absences last year, equating to nearly eight full-time staff positions).
Administrators proposed piloting a virtual charter (Greendale Global Academy) for grades 6'12 and reported that Moody's reached out after a planned reduction in fund balance; the administration recommended increasing fund balance by 1% in 2025'026 to remain within policy targets and preserve the district's rating.
Board members questioned accountability measures, requested disaggregated data for social-emotional screening results and encouraged outreach to PTOs and students; student board members urged broader promotion of career opportunities so more students are aware of available pathways.
The board will take feedback and may modify scorecard goals before a planned approval vote at the Aug. 18 meeting.
