Greendale — The district’s buildings and grounds team reported progress on facilities management and energy work June 2, highlighting a new work‑order ticketing system and recent energy‑management changes at the high school.
Steve Coombs, the director of buildings and grounds, told the board the district completed 841 work tickets in the past year and currently has about 39 in progress. Coombs described new standardized cleaning checklists across five buildings and a contractor‑led HVAC preventive‑maintenance program that covers roughly 187 pieces of equipment, from chillers to pumps.
Coombs said the district installed demand meters at the high school and pays about $500 per month for the service. "When you total that up, we saved about $20,000 just at the high school," he said, describing savings tied to more detailed equipment scheduling and chiller set‑point adjustments.
Board members asked whether the meters could be installed district‑wide and how long a rollout might take; Coombs said the middle school would be the next logical site and that he would provide a district‑wide cost estimate.
Trustees also asked about water testing after recent regional reports; facilities staff said recent lead tests showed no concerns and that any additional targeted testing would be scheduled over the summer with results shared afterwards.
Coombs closed by reviewing completed projects — including a high‑school boiler replacement — and summer project planning tied to the district’s ongoing energy and maintenance strategy.
