Board hears plan for Greendale Global Academy charter with ASU Prep partnership; board to consider grant application

Support services would include executive-function coaching, social skills opportunities and academic intervention in person. The presenters estimated initial enrollment targets of about 35 resident students and 25 open-enrollment students, with capacity up to 100 in the first year and a practical launch target of 50–60 students.
Speakers emphasized that many program details—eligibility, extracurricular access, graduation participation, funding flows and credit-transfer rules—must be negotiated in the charter contract. Because ASU is an out-of-state provider, some state-specific early-college credit arrangements may not apply; administrators said these legal and funding details will be resolved as the independent charter board and the district's charter contract are developed.
Next steps described to the board included establishing an independent governing board for the charter, drafting a grant application for planning or implementation funds, and bringing a charter agreement and grant authorization back to the board (anticipated for a future meeting). No authorization to create the charter or approve grant submission was adopted at this meeting; administration asked the board for direction and said it will return with a formal charter and grant materials.
