Elkhorn board approves minutes, bills, personnel and accepts gifts; moves into closed session

The Elkhorn Area School District board handled routine business Sept. 8, approving amended minutes, routine bills, personnel actions and accepting two gifts before adjourning to closed session.

The board approved amendments to the Aug. 25, 2025 regular and closed-session minutes following a motion and roll call; two trustees were recorded as abstaining during the roll call. The business office requested approval of general and other fund bills (checks, wires and ACH) totaling $357,865.10; a motion to approve the bills was moved and seconded and the board approved the disbursements by voice vote.

The personnel recommendation sheet covered transfers, coaching reassignments and new hires conditioned on passing background checks and district-mandated drug screening; a trustee moved to approve the personnel recommendations and the motion carried. The board accepted two gifts presented at the meeting: a $100 donation from John Waltz for Westside supplies and a $1,000 donation from the Green Bay Packers to the youth football program. A trustee moved to accept the gifts; the motion passed by voice vote though one board member expressed opposition during the roll call/voice vote.

At the end of the open session a trustee moved and the board approved a motion to adjourn to a closed session under Wisconsin open-meetings provisions to discuss legal matters and a contract related to a director-level special education position; the board said it would reconvene in open session for action as appropriate.
